Setting up an ODBC Data Source

To create an ODBC Data Source pointing to your database:

  1. Open the ODBC Data Sources utility on your Windows system.  In most versions of Windows, you'll find this option in your Control Panel.  In Windows 2000, the utility will appear under Administrative Tools.

  2. On the DSN tab choose the appropriate driver for your database from the list of drivers that are available on your machine.

For example, if you are engineering an Access database you would select "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)" from the list of drivers.

  3. Fill out the driver information to point to your database.  Each database driver will require different information about your database.  For example, the Access database driver requires a path to your mdb file.
